For the record... You can play single-player games offline on the PS3. Your trophies will not be saved online, but it will boot and play. Tangentially, if you copy a save to another system, you can play, but also cannot save your trophies to the server.
And no you couldn't use Netflix instant queue, (I tried and was sad).
